Vanilla
Vanilla is a spice derived from orchids of the Vanilla genus, obtained primarily from New World vanilla beans.
Most of the world's vanilla is from the V. planifolia species, more commonly known as Bourbon vanilla (from the former name of Réunion, Bourbon Island) or Madagascar vanilla, produced in Madagascar and nearby islands in the southwestern Indian Ocean and Indonesia. Vanilla fields in Madagascar and Indonesia produce two-thirds of the world's vanilla supply.
